Support LA FRONTERA project - phase 2

Please help me to continue my visits to the border to document the vibrant cultural life along the 2000 miles long divide !! https://igg.me/at/LaFrontera/x/860102
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to invite you to contribute to the next phase of my favorite project:
LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US-Mexico Border.
From the moment I set foot in Tijuana in November 2008 I realized that the border region would become the most compelling material of my life as a photographerI recognized that all the news about violent crimes told only a small part of life along the border. My discovery of a vibrant art scene flourishing back then was a great inspiration, and I urgently wanted to share its story.
I have already photographed over 180 painters, muralists, sculptors, performance artist, poets, gallery owners and curators south (and some also north) of the US border in Matamoros, Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Juarez, Nogales, Mexicali, Tecate, Tijuana as well as San Diego, El Paso, McAllen and Brownsville.
But I'm not done yet, the project continues.
I'm planning to revisit some of the 180 artists whose work has had the most impact on their communities and produce in-depth interviews and videos about their lives and their art. Finding new artists will also be part of my expanded La Frontera project.

The interviews, photographs, and videos will be published on the websiteborderartists.com, which will re-launch with a visually richer, updated and interactive design. I am also working on a book for the US and Mexico, which will include the new material.
The new educational and entertaining website will be the heart of my LA FRONTERA project. I will invite art museums and cultural institutions from both sides of the border to add their calendars and other content to the site, and individual artists can to link to their work. An app for smartphones and tablets is planned.

Your contribution will help to accomplish this.

My ultimate goal is to develop LA FRONTERA into an interactive online community that will forge cultural connections along the entire 2,000-miles-long border.
I feel passionate enough about this project to ask you for your help. Here is what I need:
Funds for roundtrip air fare from New York as well as for lodging, car rental, and video equipment for three separate trips:
1. New York - Brownsville/McAllen/Matamoros/Reynosa/N.Laredo
2. New York - El Paso/Cidudad Juarez
3. New York - San Diego/Tijuana/Tecate/Mexicali
If funds permit I will include other border towns and cities, especially the city of Piedras Negras, since the state of Coahuila is not represented in my project yet!!.
(Funds to have the La Frontera website re-designed as described above. )

I appreciate you in advance!

Very last call: Hurricane Sandy, President's elections in the US ...

I know this is not a good day to close a fundraiser. But, we stand at an amazing 8,525 $ from 76 amazing backers from many countries.
There are only 12 hours left to support the project. Some of you may have seen this announcement far too often, but it just does help me going back to work on this positive story along the US Mexican border. And if you feel like I do, that it is important to show the good and cultural sides of a region that is normally portrayed by the media with negative stories ... then we are on the same page and I need your help to make this work.
Thank you to all my backers, I am super grateful !!!!!!

37 hours

37 hours left to support my project LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US Mexican Border.

I do not need to reach my goal but every dollar counts.

With your contribution I will go back the the border towards the end of November and photograph artists and their work in order to show that there is much more to the region than bad news. The more funding I get the closer I will come to complete the project. The border is 2000 miles long !
This funding campaign will keep all the money that is collected. I am very grateful to the 72 funders who already help me to continue my work. thank you all ! Please go to:

Final Call To Support La Frontera Project

My fundraiser campaign for LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US Mexican Border on IndieGogo is soon coming to an end.

In 2 days, to be exact.

So far 70 funders from all over the world have contributed a collective amount of 6,640 $. I am very grateful to every single backer, no matter how big or small the contribution. This campaign will keep the funds even if the set goal is not met.

I will appreciate every additional support, big and small, because:

On November 19th I will travel to the border in the state of Tamaulipas to continue my work with your backing !! The more money I have, the further along the border I'll get. It's that simple. The goal is to cover the entire length of the 2000 miles, one artist at a time.

With a grant from German Bild&Kunst foundation (that I was awarded with before I started this fundraising effort) and your contributions I can now continue the project, but every additional dollar would still help to complete it. On November 19th I will travel to Brownsville and Matamoros and then slowly make my way west. I will come home to New York for Christmas/New Year and continue my travels along the border in early January.

Please watch the short video (I am in it !!) and more images from my recent visits to Baja California and contribute if you like, or share the link with your networks soon, there are only 4 days left until the campaign ends:

My La Frontera Fundraiser on Indiegogo

I started a crowd funding campaign for my 'LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US Mexican Border' project. The campaign, if successful, will allow me travel along the 2000 miles long border and photograph artists and other creative people. And the border itself.

As you can see on my campaign site, I have portrayed great artists in Tijuana, Tecate and Mexicali already during earlier visits this year and in 2008 and 2009. Now I need your help to really start the project along the entire border.

I am hoping that my LA FRONTERA project will help to put a spotlight on the vibrant cultural life along the border that most people in the US and other countries know very little about.

Some of you might wonder why I choose the crowd-funding platform Indiegogo instead of Kickstarter. For me the choice was simple because

a) Indiegogo allows easy ways to contribute directly with your debit or credit card, or through paypal (you need an Amazon account to contribute to a project on Kickstarter).

b) I will receive all contributions that have been made until the end of my campaign (Nov. 6th, election day !!), which will assure you that I am going to continue my project even if I do not reach my goal of 27000 $. In that case I may have to skip some cities or towns along the way and shorten my stays in others.

With your help I will go ahead with my project. Contributions start as low as 10$.

Thank you for your support :-) Stefan Falke

La Frontera Fundraiser

My fundraiser for my project 'LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US Mexican Border' is online now and won't stop until the day of the Presidential Elections, November 6th. I hope you stop by and watch my short 2 and 1/2 minute video. I need your help to photograph artists along the US Border in order to show the cultural side of a region that people in the US and elsewhere know so little about and where the news are almost always focused on violent crime. If you can contribute money, great !! If you could share the video on facebook or other sites, also great !! I any case, thank you for your support :-)

LA FRONTERA Facebook Page

I just started a new Facebook page to promote and organize my longterm project 'LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US - Mexican Border': http://www.facebook.com/LaFronteraArtistsAlongTheUsMexicanBorder

... I am currently working on a long-term project about artists along the US Mexican border in order to document the abundant cultural activities in a region portrayed by the international media mostly with the sole focus on violent crimes. I am planning on traveling along the entire length of the 2000 miles border and photograph painters, photographers, musicians, writers, architects etc… and art institutions and events. I started to work on this project in November 2008 and I have already photographed over 70 artists in Tijuana, Tecate and Mexicali. Next I will travel (in sections) to Nogales, Ciudad Juarez, Nuevos Laredo, Reynosa, Matamoros and smaller towns along the border. I will also visit Brownsville, El Paso, Calexico, San Diego and other border towns and cities on the US side of the border...
