A new hardcover version of my latest self published and multi award winning book REFLECTING NEW YORK is now available, right on time for the Holidays, along with the softcover and the larger format 'Collectors Edition' versions. About the Book:  Using a hand held mirror in locations around New York award winning photographer Stefan Falke invites distant buildings, structures or other visuals into the main photo to create a viewing experience that requires a second look. At times the reflection in the mirror becomes the main photo. His goal is to visually loosen up the obvious, to create images that will surprise and intrigue the viewer, and himself.  Hardcover, Standard Landscape, 10×8 in (25×20 cm), 66 pages, 59 color photographs. A word about my self published books:  The traditional photo book publishing world has dramatically changed and photographers are now pretty much responsible for the costs of the design and printing of their books even with a publisher involved. That can easily amount to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on size and quality etc. Those costs are usually not recovered. Self publishing with online platforms like BLURB has become a great alternative for me because there aren't any upfront costs and no storage, they print every single ordered book on demand, one at a time. Communication Arts Award of Excellence 2025

 

My work got the attention of Communication Arts in 2021 and again earlier this year; now both of my two self-published New York books have received CA's Award of Excellence and photos from the books were published in their Photography Annual 62 and 66 (see below). Communication Arts is the largest international trade journal of visual communication.  All this makes me a very happy  German-American New York photographer !! Two new Awards !!

AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHY and COMMUNICATION ARTS   awarded photos from my latest book "Reflecting New York", for which I photographed locations in my chosen hometown with a handheld mirror ... I am very grateful and honored to receive these awards !!

My previous book "Keep Going New York !!" received the same honors in 2021. About the Book: Using a hand held mirror in locations around New York photographer Stefan Falke invites distant buildings, structures or other visuals into the main photo to create a viewing experience that requires a second look. At times the reflection in the mirror becomes the main photo. His goal is to visually loosen up the obvious, to create images that journalist Claudia Steinberg described with these words: "What pleasurable confusion, what wonderful bewilderment, such visual richness!”. He is letting his creativity run wild while hunting for visual angles for this personal book project, and although it is a difficult undertaking working with two images at once the results often surprise him as much as he hopes they will surprise and intrigue the viewer.
