Stefan Falke's Eye: My photo news extra

A new hardcover version of my latest self published and multi award winning book REFLECTING NEW YORK is now available, right on time for the Holidays, along with the softcover and the larger format 'Collectors Edition' versions.

About the Book:

Using a hand held mirror in locations around New York award winning photographer Stefan Falke invites distant buildings, structures or other visuals into the main photo to create a viewing experience that requires a second look. At times the reflection in the mirror becomes the main photo. His goal is to visually loosen up the obvious, to create images that will surprise and intrigue the viewer, and himself.

Hardcover, Standard Landscape, 10×8 in (25×20 cm), 66 pages, 59 color photographs.

With an introduction by New York Culture Journalist Claudia Steinberg.

A word about my self published books:

The traditional photo book publishing world has dramatically changed and photographers are now pretty much responsible for the costs of the design and printing of their books even with a publisher involved. That can easily amount to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on size and quality etc. Those costs are usually not recovered. Self publishing with online platforms like BLURB has become a great alternative for me because there aren't any upfront costs and no storage, they print every single ordered book on demand, one at a time. Which means these books are far more expensive than traditionally published book, which are printed by the hundreds or thousands at a time.

The price is high, too high you might say, but we photographers work many months and sometimes years to produce the photography for a book, and then we keep working on every aspect of it before we send the printed result out into the world, hoping that the uniqueness of our visual ideas and stories will find an open eyed friend like yourself.
