Super Heroes on Super Fence

I just love the photo fence concept and how it transforms otherwise not exactly pretty places into exiting outdoor exhibition spaces. The newest one is at Anchorage place in Dumbo and being lazy today I copied this text from Dumbo.is:  "(super)heroes" was curated by Sam Barzilay, Director of United Photo Industries, as part of the NYC Department of Transportation’s Urban Art Program. It features artists from all over the world who approached the subject of superheroes as an allegory for a deeper exploration of a social issue, whether it be the innate desire of humanity to believe in powers greater than ourselves, gender roles and stereotypes or our dreams and aspirations as we transition from childhood to adulthood.(SUPER)HEROES FORM A FENCE AROUND THE MANHATTAN BRIDGE ANCHORAGE at Anchorage Place in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Art/photography by: Alex Gross – “Cabinet Card Paintings” Astrid Verhoef – “Clark Kent” David Graham - “Superman” Dulce Pinzon - “The Real Story of the Superheroes” Gregg Segal - “Super Heroes at Home” Maleonn - “Works” Nicolas Silberfaden - “Impersonators” Susanne Middelberg - “Wonderwoman” Walter Iraheta - “Kryptonita”.
My favorite: The “Superman” series by Dulce Pinzon about Mexican  immigrant workers in New York who send lots of money home.  dulcepinzon.com/superheroes

Photoville Brooklyn II

What a day at Photoville. After yesterdays rainy start this was the perfect weather to hang out at Brooklyn's waterfront and enjoy great photography outdoors. Love it love it love it. The quality of the work shown is mostly excellent (my humble opinion), the location absolutely cool and the atmosphere very relaxed. I felt sorry that I could not hang out for the evening and see Brian Storm's Media Storm presentation ... I'll be back for more tomorrow. Photoville Brooklyn I

Another great addition to New York's 'go to' places is Photoville in Brooklyn which had a very wet start yesterday, one rainy storm after another ruined the fun for many. Not for photographer Dirk Anschuetz (above) who shows five of his fantastic GIDDY UP images on the  fence ... the opening party was closed when we got there, due to the weather  ;-(  but I'll be back today ... judging from the (mostly) high quality of the exhibited work on the fence I am curious what's in store in the exhibition containers that are part of Photoville.

"PHOTOVILLE is a new Brooklyn-based photo destination - a veritable village of freight containers transformed into temporary exhibition spaces, taking place this summer from June 22 to July 1, 2012". More information about Photoville and participating artists: http://photovillenyc.org/about.html
