That's why we at CYME also like to interview the photographic artists that inspire us and we like to share their work with our community.

Keep Going New York blog

I started a new blog about my book, keep visiting for more:

My work for this book focuses on the resilience of my fellow New Yorkers, on moments of normalcy under exceptional circumstances during the pandemic in 2020. I chose a positive attitude in the title and the photographs because I love my chosen hometown and know it will bounce back as it has so many times before. So I like to show New Yorkers doing what they always do: They keep going !!

My self-published book is rather small in size (10×8 in, 25×20 cm) and page count (62) and I limited my edit to 58 photographs. You may consider the book expensive, and it is, comparably, but it is the nature of self-publishing, especially when printed and distributed from a  print-on-demand platform like Blurb, that the product has a price that cannot compete with the books produced by big publishing houses.

The work that went into my book, nine month photographing, two month editing (with the invaluable help of journalist Claudia Steinberg and my wife Christine) and designing, promoting etc etc … makes this book all worthwhile. And the work kept us busy and sane during the difficult year 2020.

Keep Going New York !!  is a visual time-stamp showing our city going through a challenging phase. It is not sensational, not spectacular. It just is the way I saw our city in 2020. I hope it will be of value for you, way beyond now, or later, or even much later. https://keepgoingnewyork.blog

Podcast: Art Between Us - Photography on the U.S.-Mexico Border

Photographer Monica Lozano and I were invited by B&H to record a talk about our work on the US-Mexcio border and our mutual photo session for my La Frontera project in Ciudad Juarez (Photo above. © Stefan Falke)
“… two photographers who have brought their talent and dedication to bear on the complex and beautiful lives that exist on the U.S.-Mexico border. Our first guest is photographer Stefan Falke, who is engaged in a 10-year portrait project called LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US-Mexico Border, … and photographer Monica Lozano, who is included in Falke’s project, and describes her portrait session with him in the main market, in Juarez, Mexico. We also discuss her incredible photographic series, which blend documentary and fine art styles to bring awareness to the struggle of migrants in Europe and the Americas …”

Stefan Falke's Eye Blog continues

I haven't posted on my blog since 2016 for various reasons, primarily because I have focused more on my instagram and facebook accounts and although they both have become important tools for me, to keep up with exhibition openings and for following the work of professional photographers and photo editors, my blog is still the more creative way to get out news about my work.

So first news first:

My project LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US-Mexican Border which I started in 2008, is still  ongoing and growing. One of the latest artists I photographed are the lovely and talented members of Artistas Fronterizas: Anishka Lee-Skorepa (Soprano), Eva Monroy (Mezzo Soprano) and Olena Galystka (Piano), and they are on a mission: “Closing the divide with bridges of song.”

More about them and other new project entries here: borderartists.com

I am looking forward to seeing you here soon again!!

Support LA FRONTERA project - phase 2

Please help me to continue my visits to the border to document the vibrant cultural life along the 2000 miles long divide !! https://igg.me/at/LaFrontera/x/860102
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to invite you to contribute to the next phase of my favorite project:
LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US-Mexico Border.
From the moment I set foot in Tijuana in November 2008 I realized that the border region would become the most compelling material of my life as a photographerI recognized that all the news about violent crimes told only a small part of life along the border. My discovery of a vibrant art scene flourishing back then was a great inspiration, and I urgently wanted to share its story.
I have already photographed over 180 painters, muralists, sculptors, performance artist, poets, gallery owners and curators south (and some also north) of the US border in Matamoros, Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Juarez, Nogales, Mexicali, Tecate, Tijuana as well as San Diego, El Paso, McAllen and Brownsville.
But I'm not done yet, the project continues.
I'm planning to revisit some of the 180 artists whose work has had the most impact on their communities and produce in-depth interviews and videos about their lives and their art. Finding new artists will also be part of my expanded La Frontera project.

The interviews, photographs, and videos will be published on the websiteborderartists.com, which will re-launch with a visually richer, updated and interactive design. I am also working on a book for the US and Mexico, which will include the new material.
The new educational and entertaining website will be the heart of my LA FRONTERA project. I will invite art museums and cultural institutions from both sides of the border to add their calendars and other content to the site, and individual artists can to link to their work. An app for smartphones and tablets is planned.

Your contribution will help to accomplish this.

My ultimate goal is to develop LA FRONTERA into an interactive online community that will forge cultural connections along the entire 2,000-miles-long border.
I feel passionate enough about this project to ask you for your help. Here is what I need:
Funds for roundtrip air fare from New York as well as for lodging, car rental, and video equipment for three separate trips:
1. New York - Brownsville/McAllen/Matamoros/Reynosa/N.Laredo
2. New York - El Paso/Cidudad Juarez
3. New York - San Diego/Tijuana/Tecate/Mexicali
If funds permit I will include other border towns and cities, especially the city of Piedras Negras, since the state of Coahuila is not represented in my project yet!!.
(Funds to have the La Frontera website re-designed as described above. )

I appreciate you in advance!
