Communication Arts Award of Excellence 2025

 

My work got the attention of Communication Arts in 2021 and again earlier this year; now both of my two self-published New York books have received CA's Award of Excellence and photos from the books were published in their Photography Annual 62 and 66 (see below). Communication Arts is the largest international trade journal of visual communication.  All this makes me a very happy  German-American New York photographer !! Two new Awards !!

AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHY and COMMUNICATION ARTS   awarded photos from my latest book "Reflecting New York", for which I photographed locations in my chosen hometown with a handheld mirror ... I am very grateful and honored to receive these awards !!

My previous book "Keep Going New York !!" received the same honors in 2021. I self-published both books on the 'print on demand' platform blurb.com, New York culture journalist Claudia Steinberg wrote the introductions to both books. Bragging Rights: It looks like an Oscar and it really felt like getting one: My "Keep Going New York !!" project  received one of these golden beauties during the  Global Focus Project Award Ceremonies at the incredible  Xposure Photo Festival in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Twelve photographers from 6 continents - two each - were awarded for their projects and contributions to the field of photography and their work was exhibited  during the festival week Feb 28th - March 5th. I feel very honored and humbled for being included in this amazing group: Thandiwe Muriu (Africa), Gurcharan Roopra (Africa), Sirachai Arunrugstichai(Asia), Emily Garthwaite (Asia), Shane Hulbert (Australia Oceania), Charlotte Piho (Australia Oceania), Mario Heller(Europe), Chantal Pinzi (Europe),  Stefan Falke (North America), Erin Trieb (North America),  Johanna Alarcón (South America),  Gabriel Chaim (South America). A big 'Thank You' to the 2023 Global Focus Project committee, to the creative director of the festival, Simon Newton, his wonderful right hand Dalia Gutierrez and to Frank Meo who introduced my work to the festival committee !! Congratulations to all my fabulous co-awardees !!! Thank you Frank Meo, Kira Pollack and Aiden Sullivan for presenting the awards and to the entire team of the  Sharjah Xposure photo festival !! I am also grateful for all my new friends I made at the festival, let's keep in touch !!

Mirrored Dubai

My best wishes for your Holidays and a wonderful 2022

Yes,  this was yet another challenging year for most of us.  And still, thanks to you, my family, friends and colleagues, 2021 had some nice surprises:  A self published book (thank you Claudia Steinberg for the introduction, my wife Christine for co-editing), a solo exhibition in Zingst, Germany (thank you Edda Fahrenhorst), a photo flag in the Rockefeller Flag Project (thank you Chris Boot/Aperture), a solo exhibition at Deutsches Haus in New York City (thank you Juliane Camfield and Sarah Girner), some wonderful photo awards from ASMP, IPA and Communication Arts (thank you all jurors), invitations to some great online photography talkshows (thank you Frank Meo, Steffen Kaplan, Adam Rinn), some solid photo assignments and I finally got to work with Swiss reporter Peter Hossli again !! A good year after all, considering.  And when it wasn't, I kept busy. Which is my way of staying positive and I am hopeful that things are getting better soon, for all of us. I wish you a peaceful Holiday Season  and a wonderful New Year !!
