Xposure International Photography Festival in Sharjah 2024 - my video on YouTube now

I edited and posted my 10 minute video from the
Xposure International Photography Festival in Sharjah, UAE, on YouTube:
I was able to squeeze in only a part of the over 90 exhibitions but I hope it gives the viewer an idea about this amazing photo festival, in its 8th year and still fairly unknown in the US but gaining momentum fast. Festival director Simon Newton and his wonderful team are working tirelessly to make this huge photography event a wonderful experience for visitors, exhibitors and lecturers alike. I am so glad I was invited (and received the Global Focus Project Award for ”Keep Going New York !!“) to this unforgettable event. See for yourself here

Dirk Anschütz Upstream Brooklyn show in Dumbo

UPSTREAM BROOKLYN: This weekend you will have the opportunity to see Dirk Anschütz' great portraits of Brooklynites with Disabilities up-close and meet the photographer in his very own exhibition container provided by United Photo Industries at foto/pods - 'a hamlet of shipping container exhibitions' - at the DUMBO Arts Festival 2012.
Rain or shine, it will be a great event.
Also showing at foto/pods 2012 : Nathan Bett - "Learning to Disappear", Douglas Ljungkvist - "Ocean Beach" Abby Robinson - "Body Imaging".
If you have a very good excuse not to come by you may view Dirk's work from the comfort of your home: http://www.knipser.com

Super Heroes on Super Fence

I just love the photo fence concept and how it transforms otherwise not exactly pretty places into exiting outdoor exhibition spaces. The newest one is at Anchorage place in Dumbo and being lazy today I copied this text from Dumbo.is:  "(super)heroes" was curated by Sam Barzilay, Director of United Photo Industries, as part of the NYC Department of Transportation’s Urban Art Program. It features artists from all over the world who approached the subject of superheroes as an allegory for a deeper exploration of a social issue, whether it be the innate desire of humanity to believe in powers greater than ourselves, gender roles and stereotypes or our dreams and aspirations as we transition from childhood to adulthood.(SUPER)HEROES FORM A FENCE AROUND THE MANHATTAN BRIDGE ANCHORAGE at Anchorage Place in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Art/photography by: Alex Gross – “Cabinet Card Paintings” Astrid Verhoef – “Clark Kent” David Graham - “Superman” Dulce Pinzon - “The Real Story of the Superheroes” Gregg Segal - “Super Heroes at Home” Maleonn - “Works” Nicolas Silberfaden - “Impersonators” Susanne Middelberg - “Wonderwoman” Walter Iraheta - “Kryptonita”.
My favorite: The “Superman” series by Dulce Pinzon about Mexican  immigrant workers in New York who send lots of money home.  dulcepinzon.com/superheroes

Day before yesterday here

Photoville Brooklyn II

What a day at Photoville. After yesterdays rainy start this was the perfect weather to hang out at Brooklyn's waterfront and enjoy great photography outdoors. Love it love it love it. The quality of the work shown is mostly excellent (my humble opinion), the location absolutely cool and the atmosphere very relaxed. I felt sorry that I could not hang out for the evening and see Brian Storm's Media Storm presentation ... I'll be back for more tomorrow.
