Behind Bars On 4th Of July

We (in Williamsburg) got this real nice new park right on the bank of the East River at the end of 8th street, a little piece of heaven between the soon to be built co-op high rises. Thousands of people were coming down tonight to enjoy the 4th of July fireworks from the edge of the water just to find the gates locked. Lots of police and a sign: occupancy 4000, park full, park closed. The crowd was furious but well behaved, there was space in the park for half of Brooklyn. Well, well...I am just a photographer.

We all enjoyed the fireworks from behind the bars and when the smoke and noise settled my favorite view on Manhattan appeared again, and things were back to normal.
